I’m just rolling back into town after IM 70.3 Mont Tremblant yesterday. I managed to pull this off without completely exhausting myself. Part of that was taking Friday and Monday off from work which gave me a day to pack, travel, and sleep.
The race itself was satisfying and worth the trip to Mont Tremblant. It was a wetsuit swim, which I was happy about, wetsuit swims always seem a bit more relaxed where I normally struggle in the frenzy of a half ironman start. I was comfortable in the main pack which came out not too far behind the leaders. One thing I still can’t figure out is how these ladies run so fast into T1, I ran at a dead out sprint and still lost ground, it was definitely the hardest I ran all day.
Out on the bike, things were going along quite well, my plan was to ride as hard as I needed to stay with people, that turned out to be harder than I should ever ride, and I basically burned all my matches by mile 35. Some good lessons here and I was able to recover enough the last 20 miles to have a pretty solid run, albeit painful.
All in all, I was happy with my performance and 7th place.
I’m sad the race weekend is over and there’s not going to be too much rest on the horizon as I planned a work trip this upcoming week. It’s always easier to travel for work during a recovery week, so I can’t say I didn’t plan it like this on purpose. I’m just having a hard time wrapping my head around unpacking, packing, and then getting on a plane again. But time seems to fly by like crazy these days, so it will be over before I know it.
