Ironman Texas and then something new

Clearly I’ve been neglecting my blog and I feel that something has to change. So after a quick update on Ironman Texas, I’m going to lay out a new plan for my website!

Ironman Texas. I know there are people out there who love the play by play of a race report. But I’m forced to keep this short as I’m staring at 6 loads of laundry, a door that is sitting on my bedroom floor yet to be hung, an empty fridge, and 3 hours of workouts that still need completing.  So how was it? Pretty fantastic. I have to admit that as happy as I am with my performance, I’m still a little disappointed that all my efforts only got me 9th. The day was hard from the start with a fast swim start that sort of just wiped me out, I was able to stick with some ladies through half way, but after that I was on my own. Luckily this didn’t carry onto the bike or run. But the thing with flat courses is that it’s full on the whole time, there is no coasting or getting out of your bars, and you need 100% concentration. By the end of the race, I was beyond normal ironman exhausted and forced to ghost the finish, in other words, I just left. No chatting with any other finishers or waiting for my husband to finish (oops), I needed to get out of there fast before I barfed or passed out or whatever I felt like was going to happen any second. That’s how hard the race was for me. But overall I felt like this was my best case scenario going into the race and I’m definitely looking forward to the rest of the season.

Now on to more important things, my blog! I’ve decided to try something new.

I constantly get asked how I do it…work, coach, train, race, travel, have relationships, etc., and what my tricks are to balance it all. This is a super hard question to answer in just one blog or in a few minutes of talking with someone, so here’s my plan. I’m going to start a weekly blog post recapping my week. They are going to be short, informal, picture-less and probably riddled with typos, but I’m hoping to lift the veil on my lifestyle, and maybe help some people along the way too. Also, if people have questions that they want me to specifically address in the updates just post to comments on this post (or any of the subsequent posts) or you can also message me directly. I’ll do my best to include them. The first post should be up on Sunday!
